The Garden of Art Vic Cicansky, Sculptor

This book chronicles the life and art of Canadian artist Victor Cicansky through a wealth of color photographs, and descriptions of his studio and creative methods. It considers aspects of Cicansky's life that have most influenced his art including his childhood as the son of poor Romanian immigrants and his pivotal years at the University of California, Davis.

"There are biographical sections where chronology rules, but they are interrupted by descriptions of Vic Cicansky at work, or of a day in the life of Vic," says author Don Kerr, describing the unconventional structure of the book. "… The book is largely the result of watching Vic at work in the studio and interviewing him.… He's a gregarious man, a man happy with his life, so working with him on the book was always a pleasure." 160 pages including a photo gallery of works, and lists of works and solo exhibitions. 142 color and 25 black-and-white photographs. CAN$29.95 (US$24), softcover.
